The suspension system in your van is one of the most important. Without it, driving over rough terrain will be dangerous, and you may have trouble turning at lower speeds. Always have a spare hydraulic jack on hand. No matter how well your van rides, new front and rear suspensions can make a world of difference. This is especially important for vehicles that are heavy or have a high mileage.

Camping cooking can be a lot of fun, but it can be difficult if you don’t have the right equipment. If you’re an adventure traveler, one thing you can’t leave home without is a portable camp stove. Nowadays, if you have a van (or RV), you can take your gas-powered camp stove wherever you go, eliminating the need to cook outdoors in the cold and wind. It goes without saying that light is essential when adventuring in your van. You don’t want to be caught out at night with a dead flashlight, or worse yet, not have one at all!

Trying to get to sleep when it’s below freezing outside is one of the worst parts of camping in colder climates, but luckily propane heaters are available to solve this problem. A propane heater in the van is a much more comfortable alternative to sleeping bags in 30 degree weather. Thermo-insulating blinds are worth considering if you spend a lot of time in your van outside. These can provide shade and keep you cool while parked. Lighter fabrics, such as cotton or nylon, will not trap heat like some synthetic fabrics. If you use these blinds and curtains together, you can adjust the amount of light and privacy in your room to suit your needs at any time of day.

Purchase a quality mattress and some warm blankets. If you sleep on that hard van floor, your body will begin to hurt, resulting in a bad night’s sleep and a bad day ahead of you. In addition to spending money on a good mattress and blankets, I recommend getting some noise-canceling headphones. Music is great at helping you fall asleep, but when it starts getting late and all of your neighbors have started going to bed…you might want those peace and quiet headphones.
